In early 2013 Scott Williams (Swich Managing Director) a Fixed Operations Manager for Baulch Motor Group in Warrnambool comprising of Jeep, Chrysler, Dodge, Nissan, Kia and Isuzu dealership franchises noticed a car rental service opportunity. This opportunity was due to the lack of available car hire vehicles in the market for car brand franchises and insurance companies. Other car hire companies expect their customers to collect and drop off vehicles to them, taking up their customers valuable time.
By November 2013 Scott developed a car rental system in Australia that has disrupted the car rental space. The system involved establishing a program for car brand franchises and insurance companies that offered their own brand franchise vehicles that were delivered direct to the customer’s door, limiting any stress to the customer whilst their vehicles were off the road.
Swich’s many points of difference include daily reporting to corporate clients so they can easily manage, track and extend their hire vehicles. Coupled with prompt, friendly door to door service, anywhere, anytime that is now synonymous with convenience and quality familiar vehicles.
Behind every great brand is a great team. Swich pride themselves through understanding that having your vehicle off the road can be a stressful time. An example of this understanding was when a call came through from a client to advise that one their customer’s personal cars had broken down at 5.30pm on a Friday night. A Swich car left the nearest depot with a vehicle straight away and was in peak hour traffic for around 2 hours (the Swich driver got back to the depot about 11pm). The customer couldn’t believe they had managed to get a rental vehicle to them at such late notice on a Friday night to their house! She was so thankful she left a slab of beer in the vehicle for the driver on collection. She said that she would have not been able to run all her children around for sport over the weekend and she really appreciated Swich delivering so quickly. These stories and many more like them are one of the keys to the ongoing success for Swich.
When Scott was asked about any humorous Swich experiences a mischievous grin began to emerge. He leans forward and says, “There was this one time we had one of our customers let us know they lost the keys to our vehicle. When we delivered the spare set within an hour, we ended up finding them in the ignition! We all couldn’t help but laugh”.
When asked where he sees Swich heading in the next 12 months he said with conviction, “To service every city in Australia”.
